Facts Support Intuition

The new competence centre of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt "Applied Mechatronics" supports the areas of Sport and Health through measurable information. DI Dr. techn. Markus Hochrainer MSc is responsible as the head of the competence centre.

The competence centre "Applied Mechatronics" takes an active role in supporting students from all study areas in technical implementation of the projects. "First projects are already running: For example, “Strategy in Team Sports” is about Simulation & Probability Calculation. A trainer in team sports knows which tactic is reasonable from experience and intuition. At this point, the competence centre comes into play and delivers measurable and reproducible information about which strategy is the most convenient for certain skills" says Markus Hochrainer.

The competence centre "Applied Mechatronics" provides support in the area of health as well. Through oscillation and acoustic measurement techniques, intangible things can become measurable as in acoustic phonetics. An experienced language trainer discerns a language deficiency, for which the competence centre offers technical methods. This is a part of the study program Mechatronic. The project work is mostly carried out by students.
